Maldives has shortened its Covid-19 curfew hours, with the new curfew beginning at 8:00pm.
Speaking during a press conference held at the President's Office, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said that the government has decided on easing the strict restrictions in Male' area as the covid numbers have seen a significant decrease.
President Solih said that the ease of restrictions is being given after discussing with health experts and the HEOC as well. Restrictions will be lifted starting this Thursday.
As such he said that starting this Thursday, residents will no longer require passes while going out during non-curfew hours. In addition to this, with the ease of restrictions, you no longer need a pass to travel to Hulhumale.
Curfew hours have also been reduced with the new curfew starting at 8:00pm. A pass is also no longer required to go outside during non-curfew hours. All businesses will also be able to operate during non-curfew hours.
People will also now be able to pray at mosques with social distancing measures in place, as well as dine-in options now being permitted for businesses.
South Asians will also now be able to travel to the Maldives with a work permit, however, they are required to undergo a 14-day mandatory quarantine. The country also plans to open its border to South Asian travelers, although this will be implemented based on the situation of South Asia by July 15th.
