People National Congress (PNC) is being investigated by the Elections Commission for allegedly utilizing the equipment and goods of another political party.

One Online has been informed that Elections Commission (EC) has begun an investigation today regarding PNC utilizing Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) resources.

Spokesperson and member of EC Ahmed Akram has informed One Online that such a case is under investigation. Akram has also informed that a decision regarding the matter will be reached after a meeting of the members of EC.

While an investigation on the issue of utilizing resources of another party by PNC is ongoing, EC has given approval to carry on with the official formation of the party. The official ceremony of the inauguration of PNC is to be held tonight.

EC spokesperson Akram said that the current investigation against PNC will not be an obstacle in the inaugural event being held tonight.

There had been various issues with the registration processes of PNC. As such, the 3000 membership forms submitted to EC by PNC had faced various issues previously. The issues involved claims by EC that some of the forms submitted by PNC had been under the name of members who had already submitted forms for membership at PPM.
