The People’s National Congress (PNC) has opened nominations for positions to be elected at its upcoming National Congress.

Speaking at a meeting with journalists tonight, PNC Spokesperson Mohamed Firuz said nominations will be accepted from 1 to 8 September through a dedicated online portal. Details of the nomination process will be available on the party’s website.

Candidates will be required to submit their identification details and a recent police and court-issued criminal record clearance document.

The PNC National Congress is scheduled to be held from 15 to 18 September. Delegates who will participate in the Congress have already been elected, and official invitations are currently being sent to them.

Under the party’s constitution, the President of the Maldives is the party’s supreme leader and appoints the PNC Chairperson. Elections at the Congress will therefore be held for the remaining positions.

These include six Deputy President positions, 18 members of the PNC Members’ Council, 10 women’s council members and seven youth council members, as well as leadership positions in the party’s women’s and youth movements.
