Addu City Mayor, Abdulla Soadhiq (Sobe') has said that the link road in Addu City is being expanded and development in a way that can install a monorail in the future.

The project was contracted to India's AFCONS Infrastructure Limited last week. The project funded by the line of credit from the Indian Exim Bank is valued at MVR 1.1 billion.

Taking to Twitter, the Addu City Mayor said that Hankede would be separated from the Link Road and the Maradhoo Gaukendi will be widen to four lanes and a bridge will be built. And the four-labe highway will be extended from Gan Airport to the Hithadhoo Odassala. He said that the project is planned to accommodate a monorail in the future.

Sobe' said that the roads will be developed to good quality with a design line if 15 years and after the sub-base layer, asphalt will be layered on top. He said that all roads will have storm draining with concrete finishing at the smaller alleys.

The Addu City Mayor also asked his constituents to submit any complaints regarding the plans for development.

The project planned for 2 years entail a total of 40 kilometers of asphalt road that consists of all the islands in Addu City along with about 60 kilometers of CSB.
