Maldives Customs Service has said that 2.12 kilos of narcotics have been impounded.

The Police Service conducted a joint special operation with the Maldives Customs Services. The special operation executed yesterday resulted in locating the drugs aboard a cargo vessel entering Maldives.

A statement released by Customs reiterated that a vessel inspected by the service contained concealed cargo that were suspected to be narcotics. Customs reported that the substances in the cargo had tested positive for hash oil upon further investigation. The statement also informed that the current street value of the confiscated drugs stand at an estimated MVR 1 million.

Customs had seized another perpetrator attempting to smuggle drugs through the airport yesterday. The service had taken a 28 year old Bangladeshi man into custody following the find.

Customs reported that the man was further inspected due to suspicious activity and that a packet containing 1963 orange pills were found. Customs reiterated that the pills were tested positive for Ya ba containing methamphetamines and estimated that they were worth MVR 100,000at street value.

Customs also reported that the perpetrators and narcotics in both cases have now been handed over to the Maldives Police Service custody. Police are reportedly further investigating both the cases.
