The India has said that they would be providing COVID-19 vaccine to the Maldives, at the latest, in two weeks.

Deputy Commissioner of the Indian High Commission in the Maldives, Shri Rohit Rathish told One Online stating that India is going to prioritize helping the neighboring countries in providing vaccines. And so, the shipment to the Maldives will be sent, at the lastest, in two weeks.

However, he did not specify the brand of vaccine nor the amount that is being sent to the Maldives by India.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the brand and amount can be finalized after verifying the brand the Maldivian government requires along with the nation’s storage capacity.

While a number of countries have developed vaccines for COVID-19, India has been using both “Covishield”, the vaccine developed by Oxford University, and “Covaxin” developed by India’s Bharat Biotech.

These two vaccines are authorized in emergency status and being used in various countries.
