Maldivian government on Monday condemned the spokesperson of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over insults directed towards Prophet Muhammad.
"The Government of Maldives unreservedly condemns all and any action that purports to pervert the true nature and teachings of Islam and attempts to demean the holy Prophet Muhammed (PBUH)," a statement issued by the Foreign Minister in response to Nupur Sharma's remarks insulting Prophet Muhammad read.
The statement further added that the government is deeply concerned by the derogatory remarks made by some officials of BJP, India, insulting the holy Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) and the religion of Islam.
It also noted that the Maldivian government welcomed the denouncement by the Government of India of the derogatory remarks by the concerned officials and the prompt action taken by BJP against those officials.
