A Maldivian woman in India has been arrested for an attempt at smuggling drugs to the Maldives through a courier.

Indian news outlet, Times of India reported that that the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Tuesday arrested a 50-year-old Maldivian woman for allegedly being instrumental in attempting to smuggle close to 4kg of opium to Maldives.

The woman was arrested on arrival at the Kochi International Airport on the basis of a look out notice (LOC). NCB’s Mumbai zonal unit probing the drug peddling case had issued the LOC after her name came up in the smuggling case last December.

According to NCB, on December 11, based on specific information, their sleuths intercepted a parcel at the MIDC office of a courier company and found 3.9kg opium concealed in an electric appliance and headed for Maldives.
