HDC: Hiyaa flats being repainted orange because color has faded

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has said that they are repainting the orange color on some of the flats developed under the Hiyaa Project because the color had faded.

Some people have expressed criticism on social media that the HDC is painting the Hiyaa flats yellow.

Responding to the criticism, HDC took to Twitter saying that the buildings were initially painted orange back in January 2020 and “due to color fading issues of these blocks, the contractor was instructed to repaint the blocks identified with the color fading issue during their building rectification process.”

As the contractor liability period is not over yet, these rectifications were borne by the contractor, without any additional costs incurred by the government, HDC said.

The previous government of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom announced a list of flat winners from the 7,000 flats developed under the Hiyaa Project. However, the current government has formed a Commission to look into concerns in forming the list.

The Commission has previously said that the final list of the flat winners will be announced this month. And so, the winners in six categories among those who applied for two-room apartments. They have also released how points were allocated in the preliminary list.
