Case against 11 people have sent to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG Office) regarding the physical and psychological abuse of children at the orphanage.

A report issued by the Presidential Commission Investigating Child Abuse said that the staff at the orphanage had abused children housed at the orphanage in 2017. And while the case was reported to the Maldives Police Service in 2018, no action was taken to anyone involved.

And so, under the authority of the PG Office, a Court Order was issued on 11 October for the police to investigate the case as best and as fast as possible and send it for prosecution. And the case was sent to the PG office after the police completed the investigation.

The Commission also launched an investigation into the events of the abuse and the reporting to see if any state body overseeing the safety of the children in the custody of the state had been negligent.
