The Maldives has won four categories in the Indian Ocean at the 27th World Travel Awards.

Introduced in 1993, the World Travel Awards is a prestigious award in the tourism industry that celebrates and marks the achievements of those working in the sector.

The awards won by the Maldives at the World Travel Awards this year are:

  • Indian Ocean’s Leading Beach Destination
  • Indian Ocean’s Leading Cruise Destination
  • Indian Ocean’s Leading Dive Destination
  • Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination

Following the win of the Leading Destination in the Indian Ocean, the Managing Director of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Thoyyib Mohamed said that the award is an honor to the country and a step towards to become a leading destination on a global scale.

Maldives has previously won various awards at the World Travel Awards including the World’s Leading Airport Resort, World’s Leading Beach Destination, World’s Leading Honeymoon Resort, World’s Leading Romantic Resort and the World’s Leading Luxury Island Resort.

The Maldives has won the Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination 12 times in the past 16 years.
