After presenting himself for questioning today, the former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has left the headquarters of the Maldives Police Service after five hours.

This is the second time the former President has been summoned to the police headquarters in this week. And his third time being summoned after he lost the Presidential Election in September 2018.

Yameen was summoned by the police regarding an ongoing investigation. Although no details on the nature of that investigation was released by the Maldives Police Service.

Police had previously said that they are investigating a number of illegal financial transactions by the former President during his time in office.

Former President Yameen was summoned for questioning by the police last Sunday in regards to the USD 1 million deposited to his account at the Maldives Islamic Bank
