While citizens of H.dh Faridoo, Maavaidhoo and Kumburudhoo had been relocated to H.dh. Nolhivaranfaru, 52 families are without proper housing. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has announced today, that the buildings constructed to house these families will be completed and handed over to the families in 3 months' time.

Deputy Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Ali Shamin informed One Online today that the houses were approximately 60 per cent complete by the time construction had ceased. He further reiterated that the Ministry will begin seeking companies to resume construction work by next week.

The Deputy Minister said that the construction was initially assigned to a company by the name of 'Noomadi' and the contract with the company was terminated by the Ministry due to a stall in construction. Shamin said that the construction will be assigned to a new company by next week and that the housing will be completed by an estimated 3 months.

The Nolhivaranfaru Council has said that it has been three years since the construction efforts were halted. President of the Nolhivaranfaru Council, Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim said that the construction efforts are being undertaken by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and that the council has issued complaints regarding the ceased construction work to the respective authorities , on numerous occasions,

Citizens of H.dh. Faridoo, Maavaidhoo and Kumburudhoo had been relocated to H.dh. Nolhivaranfaru in the year 2011 - during President Nasheeds' administration -as part of the formation of formal regions and in efforts to decentralize the area. As a result, the islands of H.dh. Faridoo, Maavaidhoo and Kumburudhoo were declared uninhabited islands and the people declared citizens of Nolhivaranfaru.
