Maldives on Tuesday received the 'Safe Travels' stamp granted by World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC).
Tourism Ministry confirmed the news in a statement released today. The stamp is given to countries for their efforts in implementing enhanced health and safety measures, in line with WTTC’s protocols.
Sri Lanka had received the stamp among South Asian countries previously.
Tourism Ministry said in their statement that the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) has recognized the efforts of Maldives in implementing enhanced health and safety measures and had thanked them for granting the stamp.
They added that the Safe Travels stamp granted by WTTC to the Maldives is endorsed by the World Tourism Organization and more than 200 travel agencies.
With the stamp, tourists will be able to easily identify countries that are safe to travel to amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Maldives reopened it's borders after a lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic last July. So far the country has seen 402,089 tourist arrivals in the year.
As a safety measure, all tourists must provide a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken maximum 72 hours before departure from their original destination.
