Terrorism charges have been pressed against Moosa Inaas, for setting a police boat on fire in Laamu Atoll.

The Prosecutor General's Office said that Moosa Inaas is being charged with “carrying out an act of terrorism under Article 6 (b) of the Counter-Terrorism Act, with reference to Article 6 (a) (i) of the same Act" for setting a police speedboat on fire on March 22, in Thundi, L. Gan.

He faces a sentence of 20 to 25 years in prison if found guilty of the charges.

The PG office had also filed charges for the “possession of material implying support for a terrorist organization” under Article 6 (b) of the Counter-Terrorism Act, with reference to Article 6 (a) (i) of the same Act with the Criminal Court against him and Abdul Latheef Ibrahim, Loveside, Thundi, L. Gan, in connection to the same case.

They revealed that upon analysis of a hard disk found at Inaas's residence, video evidence supporting the ideologies of Islamic State and Al-Qaeda were found. Documents supporting Jabhat Al-Nusra were also found at the residence of Abdul Latheef Ibrahim.

The PG Office had also charged Abdul Latheef with “obstruction of justice” at the L. Gan Magistrate Court, where he plead guilty to having destroyed evidence connected to the case. He was sentenced to one year and 12 days in prison.

Both Inaas and Abdul Latheef were previously implicated in the Sultan Park Bombing in 2007.
