As part of the efforts to address economic challenges to the Maldives amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Indian Government has decided to announce a new financial aid package.
In his message on the occasion of the 55th Independence Day of the Maldives, the Indian Ambassador to the Maldives, Sanjey Sudhir said that as part of the efforts to climb out of the economic challenges, India has provided medical teams, medicine, food and financial aid to the Maldives.
He said that aid has been provided under the 400-million-dollar Currency Swap between the two countries to address the liquidity challenges.
Ambassador Sudhir said that the new package is going to have major financial aid specifically designed to help the Maldives to address its economic crisis due to COVID-19. He said that the friendship between the two countries are historic and the future of the relationship is bright, in all situations.
The Indian Ambassador also conveyed the greetings of the Maldivian Independence Day to the Maldivian people and noted that the year marks 50 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and the India President, Ram Nath Kovind too has conveyed Independence Day greetings to the Maldivian President, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
On occasion of the Independence Day, the Indian High Commission in the Maldives has planned to hold a special photo exhibition showcasing the relationship between the two countries.
