Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation into the sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl by her stepfather.

Police have confirmed to One Online that the case of sexual assault of a minor by a person with a trustworthy status was reported yesterday from an island in the jurisdiction of the North Central Police Division.

As the investigation continues, no arrests have been made in connection to the crime so far according to the police.

Talking to One Online regarding the case, the Ministry of Gender Family and Social Services said that the case is being investigated through the CFPC procedure. And due to the sensitive nature of the case, the Ministry will no longer be releasing information that could lead to the identity of the victim such as the island and atoll.

While the details such as the child ‘s atoll and island have been confirmed to One Online, those details have been withheld from this article to protect the rights of the child.
