Minister of Education, Dr. Aishath Ali has said that about 40 cases of sexual abuse have been reported from the schools and the people involved in 30 of those cases have been terminated from their employment.
The Minister made the statement in response to a question from the MP for Hinnawaru constituency, Jeehan Mahmood at the Parliament today as she was summoned to respond regarding the actions being taken following the report of sexual abuse of students at Galholhu School.
She asserted that the Ministry takes all cases very seriously. and that such cases are probed properly.
The Minister noted that two employees were suspended immediately after the Galolhu Madharusaa case was reported. She highlighted that the case was submitted to Maldives Police Service and the Gender Ministry and that the authorities have been conducting a speedy investigation into the case.
Minister Dr. Aishath further stated that several works are underway to ensure that schools remain a safe space for children.
