Maldivian High Court has upheld the ten-year prison sentence by the Hithadhoo Magistrate Court against Hassan Ameen, (S. Hithadhoo, Huraa,) who was convicted of carrying out a sexual act with a child.

He was accused of carrying out a sexual act with a 14-year-old girl on 8 August 2015 while staying at the same house as the victim.

Ameen was arrested while hiding under the kitchen sink of the house.

Following his conviction by the Hithadhoo Court, Ameen's defense appealed at the High Court claiming that the Magistrate Court made the ruling in violation of the legal and constitutional regulations.

High Court made the ruling on Thursday stating that there is no corrections to be made to the original decision.
