Maldives Police Service has sent cases against 312 people to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG Office) with criminal charges for violating the lock down in Male’ City amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking on PSM’s “Raajje Miadhu” program last night, Chief Superintendent of Police, Yoonus Sabah said that 80 cases of lock down violation were reported to the police and 582 people were taken into police custody for violating the lock down restrictions.
Among them, cases against 312 people have been sent to the PG Office for prosecution.
The latest statistics released by the police show that over 9000 people were fined for violating the lock down.
During the lock down, a special permit from the police is required to leave the house. Those who violated this regulation were cautioned multiple times before they were taken into police custody.
However, with the lock down ease from 15 June, members of the general public are allowed to go out without a permit until 10 p.m.
