Home Minister Ali Ihusaan has said ensuring the Maldives remains safe and secure is a responsibility entrusted to the Maldives Police Service.

Speaking at a special ceremony held today to mark Police Service Day, Minister Ihusaan said lasting security and stability in the Maldives would benefit residents, investors and visitors alike.

He said police officers must work to ensure that no member of the public loses hope, adding that their work is crucial to protecting the country from major threats.

Ihusaan highlighted police efforts over the past two years to tackle drug-related offences, gang crime and issues involving foreigners residing in the Maldives in violation of regulations.

He also stressed the importance of providing police with the resources needed to deliver services in line with modern standards, saying the current administration is working to strengthen these resources.

The Minister urged police officers to focus on preventing crime and protecting society, particularly by helping Maldivian youth become responsible citizens who stay away from crime.

He also called on the police to ensure that the public’s hopes and trust in the service are not disappointed.
