MNDF advises caution to sea travelers

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has advised caution on sea travel amid the extreme weather in the country.

MNDF said that due to the current weather, there are numerous incidents at sea being reported to the MNDF Coast Guard.

And so, both passengers and crew of vessels traveling by sea at this time are advised to acquire the latest weather information and secure the life jackets, water pumps and check the communication equipment to be in working order before starting the journey.

MNDF also advises not to exceed passenger carrying permits and the cargo limits.

All incidents at sea are advised to be informed to the Coast Guard as soon as possible via the emergency Coast Guard line 191.

Due to the severe weather, an Orange Alert has been issued in the Maldives for the first time to the islands from Baa Atoll to Faafu Atoll. The alert was in effect from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
