A 14-day lock down has been implemented in the second most populous city in the country, Addu City.

The southern-most city in the country went under lock down after a person who was transferred from Addu City to Male’ on medical emergency tested positive for COVID-19.

Speaking at a press conference held by the Addu Emergency Operation Center today, Addu City Mayor, Abdulla Sodhiq said that it is believed that the city has a community spread and has banned the general public from going out on the streets unless for essentials.

He said that there will be many challenges in putting Addu City in a quarantine lock down. However, the City Council has arranged a number of essential needs for its people and would being issuing a permit to go outside soon.

The Addu City Mayor said that it would require the cooperation of everyone to climb out of the current predicament.
