Maldivian Civil Court has ordered an Austrian national into mandatory quarantine after the person refused to go into quarantine as part of the government’s efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the Maldives.
Since the illness is spreading rapidly in the country, the government has authorized the Health Protection Agency (HPA) to quarantine those who tests positive for COVID-19 along with people who are suspected of having the illness and the people arriving in the country.
The Civil Court ordered the relevant authorities last night to quarantine the Austrian national. The court has issued similar orders in the past against individuals who refused to go into quarantine willingly. However, the previous orders were all against locals.
This is the first time the court has ordered a foreigner into quarantine.
