Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Hameed, has said that the Maldives Police Service will be taking action against those spreading false information regarding the COVID-19 situation.

In a tweet sent out today, Commissioner Hameed said that the police will take action against those who spread false information and incite fear in the community.

He said that action will be taken against those who spread false information, make false accusations and harass people in regards to the illness and advised the public to refrain from such behavior.

While the Police Commissioner has made the remark, there has been a surge of false news and information to spread fear in the community in the Maldives amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
