A man has been arrested for the rape and sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl in the jurisdiction of the South Police Division.

Maldives Police Service said that the crime was reported to the police sometime yesterday and they arrested an 18-year-old local man.

Police are investigating the case further.

Authorities does not reveal information such as island and atoll in sensitive cases to protect the victims.
