Maldives Police Service has said that if public gatherings are taking place amid the current COVID-19 pandemic, they will be dispersed.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Abdulla Fairoosh said that under their works during the Public Health Emergency, all orders that are being issued by the HPA will be enforced by the Police.

They added that under the awareness programs being run in the islands, they are advising all to remain indoors and not to go outside unless absolutely necessary. In addition to that, Police noted that if there are too many people at one place without a proper reason to be there, efforts will be made to disperse them.

Fairoosh noted that additional officers have been deployed to the islands and changes have been brought to duties to accommodate this.
