Government offices to be closed from 19-26 March

The Maldivian government has decided to close the government offices from 19-26 March 2020 amid the COVID-19 Corona Virus pandemic.

The President's Office revealed that it was among the special steps being taken by the government regarding Covid-19.

As such, the President has decided to close all government offices starting March 19, Thursday up till March 26, Thursday.

The decision came after a cabinet meeting today, where it was decided that it was among one of the necessary steps to be taken in order to slow down the spread of Covid-19 in the Maldives.

They also decided to keep providing essential government services from select industries with minimal employees as required.

These include:

- Medical services and pharmacies

- Judiciary and courts

- Police and MNDF

- Water, Electricity and Telecommunications

- Foreign relation works

- Social protection services

- Airports and Seaports

- Broadcasting

- Banking

- Fire & Rescue

- Meteorological services

- Fuel & Cooking Gas services

- Prisons

- Waste Management

Furhther measures that have been taken regarding the escalating situation include banning all gatherings, banning all travels between atolls except for the necessary as well as reducing the amount of time spent outdoors by everyone.

During the meeting, President had stated that any measure needed to take in order to contain the spread of the virus will be taken.
