An employee of the South Palm Resort was arrested yesterday around 1:55 p.m. after swimming to Meedhoo, Addu City from the resort.
Maldives Police Service told One Online that the man was taken into custody for going to an inhabited island after an announcement from the Health Protection Agency (HPA) banned people in the resorts from going to inhabited islands due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Police said that the man was taken into custody after confirming that he was not a risk following tests at the Addu Health Center.
The statement issued by the HPA on Saturday ordered to halt any travel to and from tourist resorts in the country. HPA said that the decision will be in effect for 14 days.
HPA also said that resort employees can go to their resorts for work but cannot return until the ban is lifted.
However, resort employees going to the airport for tourist departures are allowed to go off the resort islands and come back to the resort.
