Chairperson of MDP and MP for West Henveiru constituency, Hassan Latheef, has said that there is no division within the biggest political party in the government coalition, MDP.
Speaking on Raajje TV’s “Falasurukhee” program last night, MP Latheef said that the party members are aware of the people that say there is division within the party.
Denying the allegations and rumors that say there is disagreement between President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the Speaker of the Parliament and former President of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed, MP Latheef said that it would be evident that the party has a united front from the recent MDP primaries.
Indicating to the rumors that the government coalition is coming apart, MP Latheef said that if it comes to that, it would be decision made by the party council. Latheef said that the party will not do anything that would make things difficult for President Solih to run the country. He said that although elected as a coalition, the manifesto being used is that of MDP and that party is in full support of implementing.
The MDP Chairperson noted that although the government is operating smoothly, some of the work is not going efficiently and said that he agrees that the corruption investigations are going slow.
Although MDP denies any dissension within the party, opposition politicians have speculated that it exists within the party.
The former Home Minister, Umaru Naseer, said that a “cold war” is going on within MDP. On Sangu TV’s “Khabarahfahu” program, Umaru said that there is two system of ruling in the current government as the former President, Mohamed Nasheed has taken on the role of a Prime Minister.
Umaru said that President Solih is working to keep the coalition intact to stay alive politically while former President Nasheed is working to get out of the coalition and defeat President Solih.
