Chairperson of the MDP, the main political party in the governing coalition, Hassan Latheef, has said that the names of the MPs and Ministers that received money from the corruption of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) must be revealed and justice needs to be served.
The main person involved in the MMPRC Corruption Scandal, the former Vice President and Tourism Minister, Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor, pleaded guilty on all seven charges against him yesterday in court. Following the plea, Hassan Latheef took to Twitter saying that so long as the names of the people involved are being kept from the public, the system would be accused of trying to hide the theft.
The MDP Chairperson said that he does not want that blame to fall on his party.
Speaking at his hearing yesterday, Adeeb said that MPs, heads of state institutes touched the corruption money and every political party gained a benefit from it. He said that those funds were used in the most recent Parliament Election.
While the former Vice President has made such allegations, a number of current MPs are being accused of involvement in the MMPRC Corruption.
