Two people attempting an attack has been arrested in Hulhumale’.

Maldives Police Service said that on 1 February 2020, officers went to the flat of a person who reported a death threat against him. And while officers were gathering further information at the residence, two men armed with sticks came to the flat for an attack and officers stopped them from entering.

After attempts to talk them down, the two men suspected of being under the influence of illegal drugs, disobeyed police orders, threatened to kill one of the officers present at the scene and attempted to attack an officer before they were arrested around 3:50 a.m. that night.

Police said that officers used pepper-spray on the two men when they pushed off the officers and resisted arrest.

One of the suspects also hit his head on the ground while he was being handcuffed, according to the police, and the two suspects were taken to the Police Station and given aftercare. And the man with the head injury was taken to a doctor for treatment.

The Professional Standards Command of the Maldives Police Service is investigating the incident further.
