A group of people who drowned are being treated at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

Media Coordinator of IGMH, Ismail Ahmed, told One Online that four people who drowned are currently being treated at the hospital.

He said that the four people brought to the hospital by the Maldives Police Service are all in good health and three people have now been released after treatment. Ismail Ahmed said that the hospital does not know where they were brought in from.

Police said that following a report of a sinking fishing vessel near Emboodhoo sandbank was reported at 10:30 a.m. this morning and the Marine Police was mobilized to the scene and rescued two of the four people at the vessel and brought them to IGMH in Male’ City.

And the two others on the vessel are in good health and the vessel has been moved to the reclamation area of Emboodhoo.

Police said that there was on local and four Bangladeshi nationals on board at the time of the incident and the two people that were taken to IGMH are of Bangladesh.

Authorities have advised caution during travel due to the current weather across the country.
