High value drugs seized during smuggling attempt

Maldives Customs Service has seized drugs valued over MVR 200,000 during an attempt to smuggle them into the Maldives via the airport.

Customs Service said that the drugs were seized during a search of the luggage of a 28-year-old Bangladeshi national on Wednesday night.

While the suspected drugs have been tested positive for amphetamine in the first phase of testing, Customs said that they found a total of 2339 tablets with a street value of MVR 233,900.

The custody of the drugs along with the suspect has been transferred to the Maldives Police Service.
