A Maldivian involved in a drug case in Sri Lanka has been sentenced to life in prison.

The Sri Lankan High Court sentenced one of the two men arrested with heroin inside a hotel room in Bambalapitiya, Colombo, on 22 April 2016. He was convicted of possession of 265 grams of heroin.

A Sri Lankan news outlet has reported that the other man involved in the case was acquitted.

Sri Lankan media has previously reported that according to the Sri Lankan Police, the two suspects were arrested with 1.2 kilograms of drugs and the two are suspected of being part of a drug network that operates between Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
