Chief of Defence Force, Major General Abdulla Shamaal has discussed creating a unit for hydrography in the Maldives with the Chief Hydrographer of India, Vice Admiral Vinay Badhwa.

The meeting took place as part of Vice Admiral Badhwa’s ongoing visit to the Maldives.

At the meeting, the two discussed Indian assistance to the Maldives in creating a hydrography unit in the country.

The Chief of Defence Force was accompanied at the meeting by the Commander of the MNDF Coast Guard, Colonel Mohamed Saleem and the Indian Defence Advisor to the Maldives, Prashanth Hande, also took part in the meeting.

Hydrography is is the branch of applied sciences which deals with the measurement and description of the physical features of oceans, coastal areas, lakes and rivers, and the prediction of their change over time, for safe navigation.

It also supports other marine activities along with economic development, security and defence, scientific research, and environmental protection.
