Sri Lanka has lifted the Emergency Regulations in the country following the terrorist bombings in late April this year.

President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena announced a State of Emergency in the country on 21 April and has been extending every month on the 22 of the months that followed.

However, since the Sri Lankan government did not extend it yesterday, the State of Emergency in the country has been lifted.

The Tourism Minister of Sri Lanka, John Amaratunga has requested President Sirisena to announce to the tourists that the Emergency Regulations in Sri Lanka has been lifted.

Sri Lanka faced nine suicide bombings targeted to temples and prominent hotels on 21 April 2019 killing 258 people including 40 foreigners.

While the Islamic State (IS) has taken responsibility for the attacks, the Head of Sri Lanka’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Ravi Seneviratne said that there is no evidence that IS was behind the attacks. He said that Sri Lanka’s National Thowheed Jama'ath (NTJ) was behind the attack.
