President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that there will be no room for other religions in the area developed by UAE's Eagle Hills company in Rasmalé.

Responding to remarks made by opposition figures on the President's Office podcast "The Pulse," the President stated today that Rasmalé is land belonging to the Maldivian state and that the Maldivian Constitution will prevail there.

The President noted that claims being spread alleging that there will be places of worship for followers of other religions in the area invested and developed by Eagle Hills are false stories spread for political purposes. He stated that there will be absolutely no opportunity to practice any other religion in that area. He added that a school will not be built there either, but that there will be mosques and a Maldives Police Service center.

According to the President, these narratives are not being raised out of genuine affection for the country or a desire to clarify matters with good intentions. Even though the government has answered questions regarding this, he accused certain parties of spreading false stories to distort the truth and achieve political objectives.

Speaking further on the matter, the President highlighted the country's tourism industry and expatriate worker population. He stated that while around 200,000 tourists are present at resorts across the Maldives at any given time, there are no places of worship for other religions in those locations either. Similarly, he noted that while there are one to two hundred thousand expatriates living in the Malé region, political figures do not express any concerns regarding that.

The President stated that some people are attempting to portray Rasmalé as a place outside the Maldives to create fear in the hearts of citizens. However, he reiterated that the Maldivian Constitution and laws will fully prevail in the area where the project takes place, and that no religion other than Islam will be given an opportunity in the Maldives.
