President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that legal measures will be implemented to bar Israeli citizens from purchasing, selling, or leasing any property from the land developed under the Rasmalé project.
Responding to criticisms raised by the opposition on the President's Office podcast "The Pulse," the President stated today that through the massive project undertaken by UAE's Eagle Hills, the opportunity will be blocked not only for those holding Israeli passports but also by checking through other systems.
"God willing, checking through all ways, Israeli citizens will not be able to purchase, sell, lease, or do any such thing with any property from this project, or from any future projects here," the President said.
Highlighting that a new real estate law will be introduced shortly, the President stated that those acquiring property from Rasmalé will not be restricted to any single country. In that regard, if property is sold to foreigners, it has been stipulated that citizens of any single country can receive a maximum of 25 percent. He also stated that laws clearly specify that foreign buyers of property will not receive Maldivian citizenship, and that these limits will be defined through laws and agreements.
Although limits are set for foreigners, the President stated there will be no limits for Maldivians purchasing property. He noted that if Maldivians wish, they can buy all the properties, and that the opportunity to sell them back to the government after purchase will also be available.
Pointing to the pricing in Rasmalé, the President stated that the price of a 1,000-square-foot property is around $600,000. He noted that this is a price affordable to many citizens within the middle-income and higher-income brackets in the Maldives.
