The Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race, the largest running event held in the Maldives, has been officially designated as a "World Athletics Ranking Competition."

Dhiraagu stated today that as a result of this, the results achieved by runners participating in this race will be included in international rankings, becoming officially recognized achievements at a global level.

Over 5,500 runners have registered for this year's race, marking the highest number of participants in the history of the Dhiraagu Road Race. Although opportunities were initially opened for 4,000 participants, slots were increased following enthusiastic public response.

The race is scheduled to be held on November 20th at Hulhumalé Central Park. Categories included in this event are the half marathon, 10-kilometer, and 5-kilometer races, along with newly introduced team categories.

Dhiraagu also stated that the main purpose of this race—where experienced runners and newcomers to the running field will gather—is to encourage healthy lifestyle habits, foster the habit of running to maintain good health, and establish a platform where everyone can participate.

Dhiraagu noted that, like previous years, DMRR 2026 is a race dedicated to child protection, which is a key area of Dhiraagu's CSR program. NGOs active in the field of child protection will have the opportunity to raise public awareness and fundraise during this race.

DMRR is the Maldives' first international race listed in the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) World Running Calendar, featuring a World Athletics-certified race route.

Dhiraagu added that this is a race that attracts numerous runners of various age groups from across the Maldives as well as runners from different countries.
