The police have begun investigating a case where encouragement was given to set fire to the Supreme Court of the Maldives, the President's Office, and the People's Majlis (Parliament) building.

The post calling for setting fire to those three buildings was made by Hassan Zihan, a former MNDF naval architect, first lieutenant, and former deputy minister of the Transport Ministry.

In a post made in English from his Facebook account, he questioned why Maldivians do not get the opportunity to set fire to the Supreme Court, President's Office, and Parliament building. "It would be fun if it's set on fire," his status stated. However, an hour after posting the status, he deleted the post.

Police stated today that the matter has come to their attention and that they are investigating the case.

Zihan, who worked as an MNDF naval architect, was dismissed from the post towards the end of the previous government. In the current administration, he was appointed as the deputy minister of the Transport Ministry, but was later removed from the post. Since then, he has been critical of the current government.
