The National Meteorological Centre (MET) has forecast heavy rain and adverse weather conditions across all regions of the Maldives for the next three days.

The MET Office stated that the current period coincides with El Niño conditions, leading to sudden weather deterioration and increased rainfall.

While rainy weather is currently affecting all parts of the country, the weather is expected to be worst in the southern atolls today. Winds are estimated to range between 5 to 15 mph, though seas are projected to remain slight.

The MET Office also noted reduced visibility during this period, stating that visibility has dropped to 7 kilometers compared to the typical 9 kilometers.

Meanwhile, a White Alert has been issued for the area stretching from GA. Atoll to Addu City, effective from 13:15 to 19:00 today. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in the alerted regions during this period.
