Although yesterday's session announced that a parliament sitting would be held today, the Parliament Secretariat has stated that the next sitting will instead take place on Monday the 19th of this month.
While concluding yesterday's session, the presiding Deputy Speaker and Eydhafushi MP Ahmed Saleem announced that the next sitting would be held on Wednesday, October 14.
Although the Parliament Secretariat stated that the next sitting is now scheduled for October 19, no reason was provided for the cancellation of today's scheduled session.
Since the beginning of the current parliamentary term, very few items have been agendaed for the parliament floor. Preliminary debates on the two bills brought to the floor this term have been concluded, and both bills have been accepted by the parliament and sent to committees for review.
One of those bills is the bill on confiscating property acquired through crime, which was sent to the Judiciary Committee, while the second bill is an amendment to the Criminal Procedure Act, which was accepted and sent to the Judiciary Committee during yesterday's session.
