President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the government's goal is to enable early detection of illnesses and further strengthen the mental health care system.

He made these remarks in a message shared on social media today in connection with World Mental Health Day. President Muizzu stated that efforts will be made to build an accessible and fair mental health system for citizens in the Maldives, based on the consultation and participation of individuals who have experienced mental health difficulties and aligned with public needs.

To achieve this target, work is ongoing to introduce policies and legislative amendments under the Mental Health Strategic Action Plan formulated for 2025 to 2029, he noted. In this regard, he highlighted that work is underway to formulate a national mental health policy and a mental health law.

Additionally, the President noted that mental health services are being integrated into public health services, regional and specialist care systems are being strengthened, and tele-mental health and emergency care systems are being developed.

The President stated that his government's aim is to prioritize prevention of mental health issues, early detection and treatment, ensuring easy access to high-quality healthcare, and building a compassionate, mutually supportive society.
