The Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Youth Empowerment have signed an agreement to expand apprenticeship opportunities for Maldivian youth in the tourism sector.
The agreement was signed by Tourism Minister Mohamed Ameen and Youth Minister Abdulla Rauf at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Youth today.
Under the five-year agreement, participants of the National Apprenticeship Programme will receive practical training at resorts, hotels and guesthouses across the Maldives. Participants will also receive a financial allowance during their training and a recognised certificate upon completion.
The Tourism Ministry said the initiative aims to increase the participation of Maldivian women in the tourism industry and provide young people, particularly young women, with opportunities to gain practical experience and earn an income.
The ministry said the programme will also help develop a skilled Maldivian workforce to meet the growing needs of the tourism industry and ensure that young Maldivians benefit from the sector's growth.
Under the agreement, the Tourism Ministry will facilitate training and industry placements, while the Youth Ministry will promote the programme, process applications and oversee training and certification.
