PNC member for Fuvahmulah South constituency, Ibrahim Hussain, has stated that the currency used in the Maldives must be converted into a digital currency.
The MP made these remarks while speaking during the debate on the Proceeds of Crime Bill at today's session of the People's Majlis. The member stated that the practice where a select few can use power to manipulate and utilize the hard-earned money of the public whenever they want must be brought to an end.
The MP also noted that this bill is highly important, as it will establish a system that can completely eradicate corruption from the Maldives and deliver numerous benefits to the citizens. Member Ibrahim Hussain added that although the country is small, it generates substantial revenue and has the potential to secure prosperity for its people.
However, he pointed out that due to corruption, illicit wealth is being amassed and improperly utilized by select individuals while public funds are diverted. Highlighting past incidents, the MP noted that thousands of millions of Rufiyaa belonging to the MMPRC vanished without a trace.
