The Football Association of Maldives (FAM) awards ceremony, which honors achievements based on the past football and futsal season, has been scheduled to be held on Thursday night this week.
FAM stated that the awards ceremony, taking place on the night of the 8th of this month, will recognize and appreciate the achievements of players, coaches, and teams who have excelled in various ways within the Maldivian football and futsal sectors.
The association noted that the event will select the best male and female football and futsal players in the Maldives, alongside the best foreign player, most promising player, best goalkeeper, top goalscorer of the past season, best coach, and best referee.
Furthermore, it has been decided to separately select the best club and best regional club, as well as the most popular player among supporters. Although it was previously announced that the best goal would be selected, FAM did not include this award in the subsequent information provided to the media.
FAM further noted that the purpose of the awards is to elevate the standard of football and futsal while renewing competitiveness and encouragement among players, highlighting that acknowledging the efforts of those involved in the sport is vital for its progress. FAM announced the awards ahead of the season, appointing former renowned goalkeeper and successful coach Mauroof Ahmed (Maattey) as the chairman of the awards committee.
Previously, FAM last held a dedicated football awards ceremony in 2018 in collaboration with Maldives Football. Since then, FAM has not hosted a dedicated football awards ceremony, with the best football player instead being selected through the Maldives Sports Awards launched in 2022. The most recently selected best football player at that ceremony, organized by the Sports Ministry, was Club Eagles' Ahmed Rizwan (Rizey).
