President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Shammoon Hameed, H. Meenaaz, as a member of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).

The President's Office stated that Shammoon Hameed was appointed to the post during a special ceremony held at the President's Office this morning. At the event, he took the oath of office as an HRCM member, which was administered by Supreme Court Judge Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim. The President also presented him with his official letter of appointment.

Shammoon Hameed brings substantial prior experience with the commission, having served as the Director of the HRCM's Investigation Department from 2010 to 2012 and as the Commission's Secretary General from 2012 to 2016.

During his tenure, he worked as the commission's focal point for Universal Periodic Review (UPR) reporting and played a key role in national-level studies on educational opportunities for children with disabilities and child rights protection.

Prior to this new appointment, Shammoon Hameed served as the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage.
