The Maldives Police Service has warned that individuals who repeatedly drive recklessly in a manner that induces fear among the general public will face criminal investigations without further warning.

In a statement released today, the police announced that they have commenced efforts to crack down on dangerous driving and take stern action against offenders. As part of this initiative, the profiling and identification of reckless drivers are currently underway.

The police stated that after summoning and advising such individuals, if these actions are repeated, criminal investigations will be conducted without further warning, in addition to the standard fines previously imposed under traffic laws and regulations.

Furthermore, special attention and strict measures will be directed toward specific dangerous behaviors such as zigzag driving, operating vehicles with modified loud exhaust silencers, skidding on hard surfaces, speeding past speed breakers, unauthorized street racing and stunt driving, dangerous overtaking, driving under the influence, and fleeing or attempting to evade police when signaled to stop.
