The Criminal Court has sentenced a man to a fine of MVR 26,600 for unlawfully entering the Maldives Correctional Service prison in Hulhumalé.

The verdict was issued against Azim Mohamed (Hulhumalé Flat No. 123-1-40), who was charged by the state with knowingly entering an unauthorized area after trespassing into the Hulhumalé prison without permission on the night of June 20th of this year. He pleaded guilty to the charge.

Taking into account his confession and the 11 days he spent in custody during the investigation, the Criminal Court initially sentenced him to 4 months and 13 days in prison. However, the court commuted the prison sentence to a fine of 26,600 Rufiyaa, ordering him to pay the amount to the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) within six months.
